Cineleisure History

In 1965, Cathay Organisation opened the Orchard Theatre, providing not only an enjoyable and modern cinematic experience to audiences, but also a bowling alley and an escalator, making it the first cinema in Malaya to have these amenities. (Ref National Archives of Singapore)

 

In October 1997, Cineleisure Orchard opened on the site of the previous building, which was torn down in 1994. The youth-oriented mall housed a mix of food and beverage outlets, fashion shops and a cineplex.

 

We look forward to honour the heritage of the site while providing an accessible space for youth, creatives and film buffs.

ROXY

 

Named after the historic Roxy Cinema that ran in Katong from the 1930s to the late 1970s, this is our most intimate hall at Cineleisure. Nestled in the heart of town yet tucked away from all the other cinema halls, Roxy is like a gorgeous little secret.

We shoulda called this hall Lebowski, the way it’s so big! Named after the historic Cantonese opera house on Eu Tong Sen Street, the Majestic Hall definitely lives up to its name. Stately, comfortable and well-equipped.

Named after Pearls Centre’s now-defunct Yangtze Theatre. That Yangtze made history for being the last cinema to screen R-rated films. This Yangtze is gonna make history with you, and your bomb ass event!
